I like some of these ideas. Could easily be incorporated into the individual missions of my vision.

[QUOTE=Viruzzz]there are 2 things that fundamentally seperates PvP from PvE and makes PvP alot harder, and more skill intensive than PvE

1) everything in PvE is static, there might be a few occasions where multiple bosses can spawn at the same place, or where a spawn might or might not be there on that particular time running through the area. but that is all the diversity you will ever get in PvE, in PvP on the other hand all you know for sure is that you will be fighting other players. you have no idea what they are bringing, no idea how good they are, no idea how to counter them beforehand, and most importantly you wont know if your tactics works against them before you have played against them, and if it doesn't, will a change in tactics work? can you pull the change off before you are completely vaporised?QUOTE]

umm.... thanx for the insight but I think we all know what PvP is and what PvE is. And this thread has nothing really to do with PvP. It has to do with PvE and people that play PvE.

Well thats quite clearly absolute rubbish. The sole reason this thread was created was because of the PvP World Championship, and the discussions following about how it is an incompatable concept with PvE. Please avoid making completely incorrect and silly statements like that, just to try and avoid the glaring hole in your argument.

JR- have you read the posts within this thread?

I have put forward a possible and perfectly viable PvE World Championship. It might not be perfect but it meshes rather nicely with the 6 month release schedule for Expansions during Preview Events.

This thread was created to discuss the possibility of a PvE championship
(read the OP) and has degraded into the usual arguments of PvE vs PvP.

All I would like to see is those individuals that so adamantly against a PvE Championship to take the time to read through the post and support their statements for or against with some type of logic or deductive reasoning.

I refuse to stoop to the level where I just flame those that do not think like I do.

Read my post on the execution of the PvE World Championship. It would take place during one weekend.

It could be added as part of a chapter expansion preview weekend. There could be one every six months. And if you read the other post - you would understand why it wouldn't be "Farm Wars".

Then, I do not see a problem for the existence of a PvE competition, but this competition, I think would be based, for example, on:

Given one or more maps:

type of competition: who gets a quantity of experience the fastests. Another option for this: who gets more experience within a a quantity of time.

type of competition: who gets a quantity of kills the fastests. Another option for this: who gets more kills within a a quantity of time.

type of competition: to defeat 8 types of boss (may be one for each profession), wins who gets the best score.
The score points, an amount of a positive points is got by defeating a boss within a btime, the faster is done more points are got, an amount of c positive points is got by holding a certain spot during certain time, or an amount of d negative points are got when being killed or if taking to kill a boss more than c.
You seem to have a fairly fundamental misunderstanding of gametypes.

You create a PvE World Championship, and you put in a gametype whereby you have to kill 10 bosses in the shortest time. In the shortest time compared to what? Compared to other teams. Oh wait, hold the phone, other teams? That would make it PvP. Just because your objective isn't directly wiping out the other team, it's still competing against another team of human players.

What you are suggesting is a PvP gametype where the objective is killing AI characters. Take a current GvG match, start both teams in the other teams base, and let them go at it. It's the same thing.

You can NOT have a PvE World Championship, it is impossible. A PvP Wold Championship, set in PvE environments, against PvE style monsters? Yes. The question remains as to why you would want to pit yourself against dumb AI, as opposed to the unpredictibility and challenge of real players?

The other problem here, is that this PvP/E Wold Championship would still be dominated by the same guilds that dominate PvP at the moment. It would be no different for 'PvE players', they would still largely be not much more than observers.

Sorry JR-, thought you were going to read my post on a possible PvE Championship format.

I know you weren't quoting me. Take a read of my post "My Vision of a PvE Championship", and let me know what you think.

I have read every post in this thread, that one included. Although it is well written, and obviously well thought out, it does not address the problems brought up in my previous post.

Not that I am neccasarily saying I like or dislike the concept, infact it actually has some appeal to me. The main point I was trying to make was how fundamentally incorrect it would be to consider it as a PvE event, let alone to expect only 'PvE players' to take part (as some people in this thread seemed to).

One of the other problems with the idea, as stated before, is how predictible PvE is. This championship could only happen once, or next time around it would just be a flat out joke with everyone knowing exactly how to tackle each mission. To make it viable to run repeatedly, Anet would have to create new maps and vary the creatures every time. A lot of work.

Thanks JR- for taking to time to give some constructive criticism.

I addressed this with the last paragraph. If Anet could have a PvE Championship at the Preview Weekend for each chapter release, the maps are made, there are new monsters and mobs, and the work has already been done to coincide with the new chapter.

Win/Win from my perspective. But I might have tunnel vision becasue I love the PvE aspect of the game.

I would fully support that.

Additionally, if they were to run it like the did with the FPE.

Where you couldn't take a character from the previous Chapters, and therefore you wouldn't have access to your storage. Just remembered that from the FPE.
  • Every player would start off with a level 20 character with max armour (selectable from a list and customizable for colour - need to look good for those screenshots) and max damage weapon (selectable from a list).
  • They would have the full 200 Attribute points.
  • They would have a baseline of skills available for their Primary and Secondary.
  • They would have 20k in gold (Skills would cost 1k each). And also have 20 Skill points. You could then customize your character build by buying any skills you had unlocked with previous chapter on your account. You would also have access to few of the new skills for the professions you are playing (if Anet introduces any new ones). This way each player could recreate a character they currently have or create a new to try out the new builds/combos.

You would start in the first City of the Preview. From there you have two choices.
  1. Enter the Championship and link up with your Friends/Guildmates in the new Town you have teleported to form your party.
  2. Just quest/adventure without participating in the championship like what was done for the FPE.

The start of the Championship would probably be around 24 hours later than the start of the Preview weekend to allow some diversification in items found in the Preview and get some practice using the new skils if any are introduced. After the initial 24 hour period, you would rezone to the starting City to enter the Championship.

Just adding some points as they come to me. Let me know what everyone thinks of these ideas.

pvp is competative , pve is cooperative thats the main difference imo ... getting a fissure armor isnt hard .. it just takes time. Getting a high fame score is hard since you have to beat other players to get it.

Yes, we all know that. Instead of stating the obvious, could you contribute something positive to the thread. Maybe a reason why you would/wouldn't participate in a PvE Event.
